ABOUT ME

There’s something about the stillness of a horse that speaks directly to the soul.
It’s in that stillness that Karen Perkins begins her work.
Karen is a passionate advocate for equine-assisted learning and coaching, rooted in her belief in the healing power of horses. As an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) and a certified equine yoga teacher, she creates safe, supportive spaces where individuals can explore their emotions, build life skills, and reconnect with themselves through meaningful interactions with horses.
Her unique approach integrates physical movement, mindfulness, and breathwork to enhance body awareness and deepen the connection between horse and human. As a lead facilitator for equine group programs, Karen designs workshops focused on presence and partnership helping participants synchronize their breath with the horse’s rhythm, creating space for communication, trust, and emotional clarity.
Karen’s work is deeply informed by transformational frameworks such as Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, Don Miguel Ruiz’s Four Agreements, and Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga for Equestrians. Her programs are intentionally crafted to support not only physical skill and body awareness, but also mental clarity, personal growth, and ethical horsemanship.
Her dedication to the field is reflected in her past service as a board member at Healing with Horses Ranch, where she collaborated with leading practitioners to expand and elevate equine-assisted learning programs. Her leadership helped broaden access to equine therapy and bring its benefits to more individuals and communities.
In addition to her equine expertise, Karen brings the depth of Andean healing traditions into her work honoring earth-based wisdom, ritual, and the sacred connection between all living beings. She encourages participants to slow down, listen to the land, and reflect on their place in the natural world. Through practices of gratitude, breath, and embodied presence, she helps others reconnect with a deeper sense of harmony, balance, and belonging.
By blending equine-assisted learning, yoga, breathwork, and earth-based practices, Karen creates powerful environments for self-exploration, presence, and healing. Her work continues to leave a lasting impact on all who engage with it guiding people home to themselves with compassion, clarity, and grace.
